History is always shaped by the relationship between the present and its past. For our Essentials collection, we draw inspiration from the timeless pieces that carry the essence of every woman who wore them before us.
In this edit, we feature a mother and a daughter
whose bond transcends more than just DNA,
inviting us to witness the way generations
of women influence one another. Together,
they represent women who have shaped one
another’s lives, tastes, and wardrobes.
Editorial with Karin and her
daughter Anne Sofie
How would you say the relationship between generations has shaped the way you both see fashion today?
K: I might have inspired Anne Sofie to pursue
a career in the fashion industry through my interest in fashion and design, and today it’s a passion we share and both work in.
A: The relationship between generations has
definitely shaped the way we see fashion today.
My mom has always had a strong sense of style and has always been connected to the industry through work, and I think growing up around
that made me appreciate the artistry and fun in fashion.
Beyond DNA, what is one thing you feel you share — whether it’s a trait, a habit, or even a philosophy?
K: I think we both have a positive attitude
towards life and don’t let tough times get us
down easily.
A: As my mom mentions, we share a very
positive attitude towards life. No matter what
life throws our way, we both have the ability to
find the bright side, to focus on what’s possible
rather than what’s lost.
Fashion is often about stories. What is the last book, podcast or song you shared with your mom?
A: Whenever I hear a song dedicated to an artist’s mother, I can’t help but think of my own mom. Some of my favorites are Dear Mama by 2Pac and Min Mor by August Høyen — but I don’t think I’ve ever shared them with her… until now!
What’s the one thing that never gets old for you—whether it’s a piece of clothing, a memory, or a lesson passed down from one generation to the next?
K: I remember my grandmother telling me that you should always remember to fold your clothes neatly, it helps them last longer. But I don’t think I’ve passed that on to my daughter.
"The relationship between generations has definitely shaped the way we see fashion today."
Looking at your wardrobes, are there any standout pieces that have been passed down or shared between you?
A: Since we have a bit of a height difference,
borrowing the best pieces has always been a
challenge for me (and don’t even get me started
on shoes — I’m still very sad about the fact that
I don’t fit into her size! There’s this one pair of Karen Millen black leather boots I would die for). But on the bright side, I’ve successfully “borrowed” her Hermès scarf for a solid 6–8 years now… and I have no plans of returning it anytime soon!
K: My Hermes scarf...
